The common perception is that, by taking the infrastructure and a large part of the technical stack to the <strong>SAP<\/strong> cloud or its associated hyperscalers, the Basis role disappears. However, the reality is quite different: Basis does not disappear, it is transformed.  <\/p><p data-start=\"401\" data-end=\"878\">SAP assumes certain technical responsibilities in these <strong>as-a-service<\/strong> models, but this does not eliminate the need for an internal Basis team. In fact, the role shifts from a purely operational focus to one more oriented to governance, control, integrations, security, optimization and service continuity. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9d769cf elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9d769cf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What really changes for Basis in RISE and GROW?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dfe3e5f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dfe3e5f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p> <\/p><p data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1838\">The most relevant changes are marked by the official<strong> SAP roles and responsibilities<\/strong> matrix. It specifies that SAP is mainly in charge of: <\/p><ul><li data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1838\"><strong>Infrastructure (IaaS) and its availability<\/strong>.<\/li><li data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1838\">The <strong>operating system and managed database<\/strong> (including patches and updates).<\/li><li data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1838\">SAP system <strong>kernel <\/strong>and<strong> standard patching<\/strong>.<\/li><li data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1838\">Managed <strong>backups<\/strong>.<\/li><li data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1838\">Monitoring of certain <strong>technical KPIs<\/strong> of the platform.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1838\">But this new model does not mean that the client is left without technical work: it is simply redefined. Among the most important functions that continue under the Basis team are: <\/p><p><strong>Transportation management and change control.<\/strong> <\/p><ul><li>Review, governance and assurance of good practices in the transport flow.  <\/li><li>Change lifecycle definition (ChaRM, CTS+, DevOps with transport pipelines, etc.).  <\/li><li>Coordination with integrators and functional partners.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Security, access and compliance.<\/strong><\/p><ul><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Internal user management.<\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Administration of roles and authorizations.<\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Audits, SoD and regulatory compliance.  <\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Integration with corporate Identity Providers (Azure AD, Okta, etc.).<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\"><strong>Integrations and connectivity<\/strong> <\/p><ul><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Configuration and support of RFC, HTTP, OData, CPI, PI\/PO or other client middleware connections.  <\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Supervision of critical interfaces.<\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Certificate management, trust stores and hybrid connectivity.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\"><strong>Functional-technical monitoring.<\/strong><\/p><ul><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Although SAP monitors the platform, the customer must monitor its actual business operation, for example:  <\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Functional background jobs.  <\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Interface performance. &#8211; Growth of specific tables. &#8211;<\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Analysis of dumps (ST22), locks (SM12), queues (SMQ1\/2), workflows, etc.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\"><strong>Management of add-ons, developments and extensions.<\/strong><\/p><ul><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Validate compatibility of Z-programs, custom Fiori Apps and third-party add-ons.<\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Coordinate technical tests before updates applied by SAP.  <\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\"><strong>  Environment management, landscape and technical roadmap.<\/strong><\/p><ul><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Design the landscape strategy (development, quality, pre-productive, productive).<\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Planning upgrades, sandbox systems, test environments, system cloning, refreshes, etc.  <\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Coordinate with SAP any relevant changes in the service.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\"><strong>First and second line technical support.<\/strong><\/p><ul><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Analysis of technical incidents affecting business processes.  <\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Previous diagnostics before scaling up to SAP.  <\/li><li data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\">Proactive communications and ticket tracking.  <\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2811\"><strong>  SAP Relationship Management (Service Delivery). Having a strong Basis team is not optional: it is the guarantee that the cloud service managed by SAP works the way the customer needs it to. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4f240bb elementor-align-center elementor-widget elementor-widget-button\" data-id=\"4f240bb\"
